Policies and Procedures
Thank you for your interest in registering as an umpire on UmpHub. There are certain policies and procedures we require all our umpires to abide by.
Umpires are required to work any game they select, unless a replacement is found. Should you need a replacement, you can post your game for replacement. This will make the assignment available for others to see and possibly select, removing the game from your schedule. Finding a replacement is ultimately your responsibility, however, UmpHub will do everything it can to help you find a replacement. However, if no replacement is secured, you are required to work the game as scheduled. Umpires should post a game for replacement as soon as they become aware they cannot work the game.
The system does not allow games to be posted for replacement less than 48 hours prior to game time for league games and Noon on Wednesday for tournament games, so please plan ahead. Any umpire who is a no show for a scheduled game could potentially have their account closed and be removed from all upcoming games.
Any replacement umpire that is secured must be registered and approved as an umpire with UmpHub and must be listed on the website as the umpire of record for the game they are the replacement for. It is not acceptable to find a replacement umpire and have them work the game with the original umpire’s name still listed as the umpire of record.
In the event of an emergency 48 hours or less in advance of your scheduled game time, that will make it impossible for you to fulfill your obligation, you must notify UmpHub via email at [email protected] with the reason for your absence. Any umpire with excessive emergency requests may have their account closed and future assignments with us removed.
Should some significant life issue require an umpire to no longer be able to fulfill any future assignments, they must notify UmpHub at [email protected] ASAP, as to give us time to work on finding replacements for all future assignments. The umpire should post all the games in question for replacement as soon as they determine they will be unable to honor their commitments.
Should weather be an issue for any MAJOR YBL game and you did not receive a postponement notice, it is strongly suggested umpires reach out to the home team to confirm the game will be played as scheduled. Teams are required to notify umpires at least an hour in advance if a game has been postponed due to weather. If they fail to do so, they are required to pay the affected umpires a $25 appearance fee.
Should weather be an issue for any Wisconsin or Illinois Baseball Tournaments games, please check the home page at www.UmpHub.Net for updates. Any delays or cancelations to start the day should be posted no later 7:30am. Any updates throughout the day are posted as soon as possible. No delay or cancelation notice posted for tournament games, plan on working games as scheduled. Please note, no weather delay or cancelations for league games will be posted on the site.
Umpires are expected to be familiar with the NFHS rules and our specific exceptions and variances from the NFHS rules. A complete copy of the rules for all the leagues and tournaments can be found under the RULES tab at www.UmpHub.Net . It is strongly suggested that you have a copy of the NFHS rule book on you while working, along with a copy of the specific rules for the league or tournament game you are working through UmpHub.
All Umpires working any games through UmpHub are independent contractors, not employees. For all MAJOR YBL games, we are simply offering an assigning service bringing umpires and teams together. For Wisconsin and Illinois Baseball Tournaments, we offer umpires the opportunity to self-assign themselves to games we offer, if they fit their schedule. No one is ever required to work any specific time or game.
For all MAJOR YBL games the teams involved in the game are responsible for paying you directly. We do not get involved in payment disputes between umpires and teams for any MAJOR YBL games as we are not party to the transaction.
For any Wisconsin or Illinois Baseball Tournaments games, payment will be via a check from Baseball365 Inc. If you earn $600 or more working tournament games, you will receive a 1099 form from Baseball365 Inc. Pay for tournament games are paid weekly, via check on the Tuesday following the tournament.
You must pass a background check in order to be granted access to the UmpHub schedule. Anyone with a history of violence or crimes against children will not be approved.
Umpires interested in booking MAJOR YBL regular games must first book a minimum of 2 MAJOR YBL Playoff games before gaining accessing the MAJOR YBL regular season schedule.
By booking any games offered UmpHub, you agree to conduct yourself and dress in a professional manner at all times, regardless of the behavior of others, no matter how inappropriate they may be. Avoid unnecessary confrontations with coaches and spectators, restricting coaches to the bench prior to ejecting, if at all possible. You agree not use profanity, smoke, use chewing tobacco or drink alcohol in the presence of players while working any MAJOR YBL and Wisconsin or Illinois Baseball Tournaments game.
Any questions on UmpHub’s procedures or policies should be directed to Ben Kramlich at [email protected] By assigning yourself to any games offered on UmpHub, you are agreeing to abide by all our policies and procedures.
